Debiasing Techniques for Serious Investors

Knowing you are biased does not make you less biased. Research consistently shows that people who have studied cognitive biases in depth make the same errors as those who have not. The solution is not awareness — it is architecture.

Why This Matters

Debiasing through education alone fails because biases are not the product of ignorance. They are the product of cognitive architecture — the way System 1 (fast, intuitive, emotional) processing dominates System 2 (slow, deliberate, analytical) processing, particularly under conditions of time pressure, emotional arousal, or cognitive load. Effective debiasing changes the architecture of the decision environment, not just the knowledge of the decision-maker.
