Why This Matters

Most retail investors in any country systematically overweight their home market — a bias called home bias — simply because domestic businesses feel more familiar. Yet the global opportunity set is vastly larger, and many structural growth drivers (demographic shifts, technology infrastructure build-out, consumption emergence) are visible most clearly in markets outside an investor's home country. Fisher, operating from San Francisco in the 1960s, invested successfully in international businesses well before globalisation made it fashionable.
