Next Decade Macro Themes for Indian Investors
The most profitable macro investments are made at the beginning of structural themes — before the consensus has fully recognised them, before valuations reflect them, and before capital has flooded in. Identifying what those themes are for the next decade is the highest-return macro exercise available.
Why This Matters
Structural macro themes are sustained, multi-year or multi-decade shifts in economic activity that create lasting changes in which assets, sectors, and geographies produce superior returns. They are distinct from cyclical themes (which sectors do well in this phase of the business cycle?) because they persist across multiple cycles and cannot be arbitraged away by short-term capital. For an Indian investor with a 5–15 year horizon, identifying the dominant structural themes — and positioning a portion of the portfolio in their early stages — can produce the highest sustainable returns.
